Family friendly cafes and restaurants for children in London!

I am often asked for recommendations of places to eat in London with children, so I have decided to write this post. As I started to write it I was surprised that actually I do not know as many as I thought so it is really going to be a work in progress, I plan to add to it as I hopefully discover new places.

Restaurants

Have you been in a restaurant and realised there is nothing on the children’s menu your child likes or you order something for your child and they refuses to eat it……….extremely frustrating! I try and avoid going to chain restaurants however when you have fussy children they can be an easy option, where you know that there will be something the children will like.

Chain restaurant

Here are some restaurants we have been to that have worked for us:

Pizza express

Nando’s

Giraffe

Byron

Jamie’s Italian

Wagamama and Wahaca (my son is far too fussy for this one but I know they have a good children’s menu which works for other families).

Restaurant’s to visit for a one off:

The rainforest café (don’t necessary go for the quality of food and very expensive but it is a fun experience for the children…..I don’t think I am selling it well…..!)

All star lanes (Bowling and good food) Various locations across London

Independent restaurants

Luciano’s (family run Italian restaurant) Lee SE12

Fields bar and kitchen (good for breakfast, a meal and just a snack) Lincoln’s Inn Fields, WC2A near Holborn

These two resturants have been recommend but I haven’t tried them yet (they don’t seem to have a specific children’s menu) – Bodeans and Homeslice Various locations across London

Independent cafes

South East London

The Brockley Deli at the Conservatoire (Best salted cameral brownies and lovely outside area with sandpit for the kids) Blackheath SE3

Plumtree café (Play area in the back of the café) Greenwich SE10

Eltham palace café (Lovely café with an wonderful outside play area, you can visit the café without paying to visit the palace) SE9

Café of Good hope (Café with a great heart) Ladywell SE13 and Hither Green SE13

Central London

Primrose bakery (This is Tom’s favourite café, they sell mini cupcakes for the children! We have only been to the one in Covent Garden, it is small not much room for pushchairs). Covent Garden/ Primrose Hill/ Kensington.
