Free day out with the children in London: Southbank!

I am a person who loves a list, I often have an agenda of what I want or need to do. However often those spontaneous days are simply the best. Mr Lee wanted to show Tom the Ghostbusters bits at Waterloo stations so we thought we would combine to that with a visit to the Southbank.

The Southbank is such a wonderful free day out with loads of different things to do.

Every summer there is different things for the children to enjoy, the first thing we saw were bright orange beaches in different design, great for climbing and sliding on.

The street entertainment is lots of fun, particularly the bubble-man, wow massive bubbles, which can literally soak you! Tom was also wowed by a group of young street dancers. Though I consider Southbank a free day out, I think if you can afford it and that you have enjoyed the street entertainment you really should give a little something to them. We also spent time watching the skateboarders too.

The fountains are so much fun particularly on a hot day!

It is such a fun to move gradually down the Southbank enjoying all there is to enjoy! Here are some other things you could do on the Southbank for free:

  • Play park near the London eye
  • Visit the Tate Modern
  • The Southbank centre often has different things on some for free but some you do need to pay for.

Things to remember on a visit to the Southbank:

  • Picnic and snacks
  • Change of clothes for fountain fun!
  • A toy or two to play with in the sand.

Do you often head down to the Southbank? What is your favourite thing to see or do? What other things do you like to do for free in London?

Here is a previous post on our top 10 things to do for free in London with children.
